FLEET IN EXPANSION WITH A MIX OF A320 CEO, A321 CEO, A 320 NEO, A321 NEO and a interesting network with some complex airports with visual approaches and circling approaches as well and mix of hot wx and cold wx/freexing ops. So there is a good operational exposure and your aeronautical experience will benefit. No jetlag and not long flights. Longest turnaround is Narita and in winter can be a 10.5 block hrs. Flight Deck and Cabin Crew atmosphere is very good and easy going. Real teamwork. FOCC is very supportive as well when things don't go as planned. Flight ops Fleet Management does support you in general, especially when it comes to system failures, typhoon wx, changing alternates and uplifting extra fuel. Fleet Management also really emphasizes on the importance and encourages to fly manually with auto thrust off, FD off, AP off raw data. This will definitely boost your skills, especially the most important ones: AVIATE and NAVIGATE, and also enhance your confidence as aviator in general. Flying manually and raw data will indeed improve your skills, scanning, reflexes, confidence which in turn will have a positive direct impact on your decision making, reaction time and overall airmanship as pilot and Commander.
OCCASIONALLY, Fleet Management will try to micromanage things and interfere even going as far as to push a Commander to operate against a MEL recommendation (it is not a must, but there is a very good reason why AIRBUS writes a recommendation). SAFETY DEPARTMENT also will issue recommendations that at times are very subjective and varying depending of the aeronautical experience, life experience that the safety operator has acquired during his career and life. TRAINING DEPARTMENT has mostly very good operators, however there are a few trainers in top ranking positions that penalize pilots during OPC/LPC, LINE TRAINING, COMMAND UPGRADE PROCESS, solely based on their personal perspective. These individuals will try to impose their personal techniques nowhere written or even recommended by AIRBUS. As consequence, Command upgrade is rare and slow and OPC /LPC are almost a joke where Trainees look a the Trainer's name in the roster just to survive and not take the opportunity to improve. OVERALL training grading whether is line training or command upgrade, or OPCs and when coming across the trainers mentioned above, is based on negative aspects, and never the pilots are praised for what good they have executed or how well they have performed which is in any case, most of the time. These Trainers, unfortunately some in top ranking positions display at times attitudes and behaviors typical of BULLIES and typical of the definition of bullying in the workplace. PACKAGE is inadequate across all ranks for Hong Kong lifestyle and cost of living. Medical insurance is a almost a joke. No school allowances for kids. At least public schools in Hong Kong are free and still of quite good standards. Contract is only 3 years, then who knows....
Do not micromanage, change your approach to training and be aware what type of top ranking trainers you have as they are highly contributing to the negative brand image of the company. safety dept: be more objective and do analyze events taking in account the whole context including human factors and not just data CEO: start showing real appreciation for your people across all departments and ranks. Have a look at what's going in the Flight Deck training department. Contract needs to be long term. Package is obsolete
good company for pilots with no jet experience. for others, join if not other better options as a top up.
Good roster , new A321 Neo
Incompetent and unprofessional management create a bad working environment
Resign
Money is not bad if you’re single, you can save some money. Get your type rating, some flight hours experience and move away. Nobody stayed until retirement.
Reasonable salary
Flight schedule, training department, poor health insurance, unprepared team of instructor.
I gave my advice personally
Before apply to join this company or accept the job offer, it makes sure if the company environment has changed.
Money and Hong Kong
No upgrade opportunities Punishment culture Poor training quality
Let new people take over, you guys are obsolete.
Embrace for a chock of nonsense
Very stable roster with at least 10 days off per months, 35 days Annual Leave and staff ticket.
No commuting or part time options, you have to live in Hong Kong.
Keep working for the future expansion but above all look behind your employees and their well-being.
To live in Hong Kong is not easy, its an expensive city where you need a very good salary to conduct a good life. If you have a family make your homework. At the moment the salary is just enough to survive.
