With the merger, I do not know what will happen, but for me, MA was quietly supportive. If you don't attract attention, you can just keep going on and doing what you want to do. Also, the sick pay policy is that there is no cap to it. If you don't use sick time, it just keeps accumulating. When I left after 30 years, I received a payment of over $100K because I didn't utilize much sick time.
Used to be MELs would often be three items, sometimes more. Plane exteriors were rarely washed. Cockpits and windshields were cleaned often. I think this has improved greatly as of late.
If you ever downgrade a captain, have them take a course in respecting the captain. Flying with bitter ex-captains was the worst cockpit experience whenever it happened. Bordering on an unsafe, non-CRM environment. Really could ruin my day and take my mind off the job at hand.
Work together with the captain. CRM is a real thing that works.
No limit on sick pay. It just keeps collecting every paycheck. I retired and collected over $100,000. I didn't get sick very often.
It would have been nice to get one more day off per bid period. They could wash their planes more frequently.
Right near the end of my time there, you finally started posting training videos for maneuvers and procedures. They were very, very helpful but hard to find. Ensure all pilots know about these.
Show up on time. Don't complain about van times. Study for your recurrent training. Be kind and friendly to your coworkers. CRM, CRM, CRM.
