The company is considered quite secure, as the government holds a majority stake. Modern fleets (B737, B777, and A330). ID tickets were provided by the company (Upgradeable to Business Class when available). The salary was considered one of the best in the country (NOT in Asia). The safety culture was very good and non-punitive, especially when it comes to maintaining safety. The company had many great instructors who really helped me develop despite some outdated training facilities. Good opportunity to fly different aircraft types and upgrade to a Captain position. Good insurance coverage. There was a pilot union in the company.
The company experienced one of its worst financial crises after the COVID-19 pandemic. A lack of aircraft led to several issues, including delays in transitioning to widebody aircraft and in upgrades to Captain positions. Union–management relations had been challenging.
Be objective and do the right thing as professionals. Bring back the pride.
It used to be a great airline and I'm honored to have been part of the company for more than 10 years. If the company soars again, I would recommend GIA as a great place to build your career as an airline pilot. Best of luck lads!
