GS-2181-13 Qualifications:
In this position you will serve as a Test Pilot for the organization. Flies test sorties, conducts test mission briefs and debriefs, and provides direction to policy critical to flight test safety and technical adequacy of multiple aircraft performing test at Edwards. Incumbent tests and evaluates new and modified aerospace vehicles/subsystems/associated weapons for DoD, civilian, and foreign customers. The test pilot will use aircraft modified with specialized test instrumentation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Previous experience as an instructor pilot in US Military aircraft is required.
Incumbent may be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing in a classroom environment.
Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
Incumbent is subject to work other than normal duty hours, which may change daily due to flying and academic work schedules.
This position has been identified as a designated position under the Air Force Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent(s) of this position is/are subject to the possibility of a random drug testing.
Incumbent must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating; both meet the intent of the requirement. The FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or the military equivalent rating is also required. The
pilot certificate must include the rating(s) appropriate to the work of the position to be filled. Navy instructor experience identified as NATOPS, is acceptable for the instructor requirement.
Candidates establishing eligibility based on military night experience must provide official orders, forms, or logbooks showing their status as a rated military pilot, flight instructor, or flight examiner, as appropriate. Other certificates that meet or exceed the requirements of the Commercial Pilot Certificate are also acceptable.
GS-2181-14 Qualifications:
In this position you will serve as serve as the Senior Test Pilot for the organization. Flies test sorties, conducts test mission briefs and debriefs, and provides direction to policy critical to flight test safety and technical adequacy of multiple aircraft performing test at Edwards. Tests and evaluates new and modified aerospace vehicles/subsystems/associated weapons for DoD, civilian, and foreign customers. The test pilot will use aircraft modified with specialized test instrumentation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
TPS Graduate
Serves as Command or Squadron Chief Pilot, Test Pilot, or Test Support Pilot. Maintains proficiency in different aircraft and demonstrates ability to fly flight test points and handle all types of in-flight and ground emergencies.
Flight Instructor/Evaluator. Conducts proficiency, upgrade and flight test mission support that may include increased risk to aircraft and personnel.
The incumbent also performs duties as a Supervisor of Flying (SOF), unit operations supervisor (Ops Sup) or operations duty officer (ODO), and accomplishes other duties required of a flying organization.
The individual will perform duties as Chief Pilot for a specific airframe which will require a mastery level of flight test and of specific aircraft knowledge. Prepares written technical reports, oral briefings, and recommendations for design improvements for use by government agencies and contractors developing aircraft systems.
Test and Safety Planning. This is a key management position in which the incumbent is required to influence USAF, AFMC, and AFTC policies on the capabilities, limitations, and techniques for employment and fleet modification schedule of aircraft assigned to AFTC.
Serves as Risk Manager for all flight operations and management issues.

Employee is expected to meet Continuing Acquisition Education requirements. APDP T&E level II is required.
