A thorough knowledge of all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and standards
Initial physiological training with aircrew recurrent training as required
Formal training in the areas of basic safety concepts, SMS principles, accident prevention, risk management, emergency response planning, incident/accident investigation and management, Flight Safety Philosophy, and human factors and the decision-making process.
Capable of successfully completing 747 qualification training at Atlas Air (Miami, FL) or Air Training Support (Denver, CO) within 4 weeks of hire date
An undergraduate or higher degree in an engineering or scientific discipline
Preferred
Fully qualified 747-200 / 400 pilot
Hold or have held a CFI or have been an Instructor Pilot in the Military
Graduate of a military test pilot school or 200 hours PIC time conducting engineering flight tests and/or experimental test flights
Previous proven responsibility for Letters of Authorization (LOA) B046/D095//D195 and B747 Minimum Equipment List (MEL)
An undergraduate or higher degree in aerospace engineering or related scientific discipline
Job description
Vertex is seeking a Chief Pilot (CP) for its Rolls Royce Flying Test Bed (FTB), a Boeing 747 experimental aircraft located in Tucson, AZ. Vertex operates and maintains the FTB under a contract with Rolls Royce, testing industry-leading advancements in jet engine technology for our Rolls Royce customer.
The Rolls Royce FTB Chief Pilot is responsible for the supervision and overall day to day management of RR FTB operations and, upon completion of required training, serves as Pilot in Command (PIC) for assigned flights. The Chief Pilot is also responsible for the program-specific Safety Management System. This includes responsibility for operational risk management that includes employee hazard reporting, risk analysis, incident investigation, internal evaluation, and safety education programs. Additionally, the position is responsible for maintaining pilot training programs to meet company and FAA requirements.
